The trip to Norfolk was a spectacular success with 16 boats making the trip. The Browns had a physical problem that stopped them traveling in the boat, but they had such a good time last year on the trip to Georgetown, SC, they did the trip by car and met us at each overnight location.

            The best time appears to have been the stop over in Elizabeth City where the Mayor met us with roses for the wives, wine and cheese for all and a wonderful welcome. The reception at the Culpepper Inn was extraordinary.

            The next day the locks on the Dismal Swamp Canal were able to handle all of us in one lift by placing boats three wide in the well. The lockmaster opened a half hour early to get us all in, and that allowed us to make the other end, where all went well in that lock as well.

            The big boats stayed aboard and the rest of us checked into the Sheraton Norfolk Waterside. Lots to do in Norfolk and it appears the travelers did it all.

            The trip south through the opening bridges and big lock at Great Bridge went smoothly and a stop at Coinjock for lunch was a welcome break for a long 130 miles on the Intracoastal Waterway that day.   

            The total trip was 400 miles and took us a week and what a wonderful trip!
